I utilise objects I find within the landscape. Laying my canvas loose on the ground, painting on its contours. Scrunching up and drenching my canvas in the lake, working with earth and grit, pressing my canvas against trees to add texture. Scoring through paint with sticks leaves fragments and traces of the natural environment on the canvas. I am consciously aware of the rhythms of nature around me. I tune into subtle movements and sounds, the ripple of the water’s surface, the flight path of a swan, the meandering lone coot by my side. My presence forms part of the landscape, as much as it forms me.

Once back indoors, I begin stitching. The embroidered circles are scaled data based on my own personal digital footprint. A transparent interpretation of the digital self, pared back to gigabytes floating within the landscape. I am creating a dialogue between contemporary humanity and the natural environment. The circle itself represents our journeys from beginning to end. It embodies the idea of unity and oneness, symbolising the interconnectedness of all things. Reflecting the natural rhythms seen in nature it reminds me of the cyclical nature of life and the opportunity for growth and renewal.

The stitched aesthetic of the circles represent clarity, of thinking clearly again. Their vivid colours set against the soft muted tones of these landscape abstractions bring an uplifting sense of positivity and calm, enabling the consciousness to awaken and heal.
